Added ability to tranfer money between users. You can transfer your Discaroo Dollars to any other user by clicking the "Transfer Funds to Another User" link on your myDiscaroo home page at the bottom of your account balance summary box.

Wednesday, February 4th

You can now add all your disc golf related gear to the site to trade and sell. The ability to search will be added soon.

Accounts which haven't been used in over 6 months will be automatically Paused in order to, hopefully, cut down on the trade requests that never get responded to. It's an attempt to cut down on the stale listings without actually deleting discs or users. This uses the same setting found under myDiscaroo > Account Settings > Pause Account.

I've removed the option to cash out Discaroo Dollars for cash. Why? Because it was a major hassle for me. Each time I cashed someone out I was buying back their Discaroo Dollars in exchange for cash. So then I am left with a bunch of Discaroo Dollars which I can either remove from the Discaroo "economy" to combat inflation (not an issue yet) or use to buy plastic which I can then sell on eBay to generate cash to support the site. Basically, I ended up doing what I was hoping the user's with lots of Discaroo money would do - sell them on eBay. I have no interest in doing this so I am cutting off the cash out option.

There will probably be times when I need to buy back some Discaroo Dollars to keep inflation at bay. I will post a notice when/if this time comes. Anyone can take advantage of this offer.

I've created a new and much simpler option for adding and using Wanted Discs. Now you don't have to methodically create and attach them to every disc you have on the site. Instead, use the new Simple List.

You can turn the Simple List option on in your Account Settings (you'll need to be logged in to get to this page). The default setting is off.

Let me know what you think or if you run into any errors.

Added the Ching Bomb, Discraft Nebula and Gateway Voodoo to the disc database.

Open letter from Discaroo creator Steve Schlange

Fellow Players and Traders,

I started Discaroo almost exactly a year ago with 10 discs and a post on the PDGA forums. Now we have well over 2,000 discs with an active trading community surrounding the site. It's become exactly what I hoped, namely a great tool for all of us who play and love the game of disc golf.

With that said, there are 2 problems I have been trying to solve for some time.

  1. I've never liked that I can't get a disc unless I have what the other person is looking for. I suppose this is the nature of the word "trade" but I still don't like it.
  2. The second issue is how to make the site financially profitable for me. I have put in hundreds and hundreds of hours of work to help Discaroo grow into what it is and think it's reasonable to pursue some sort of profit. I've never asked for donations etc. because I felt strongly that I didn't want to take anyone's money without giving equal value in return.

The solution to both problems is what you see on the site today, namely that I have created quasi-cash currency (Discaroo Dollars) that can be used in the buying and selling of discs.

This addition to the existing trading system allows ANY person to get ANY disc. If you want a disc you can purchase it with your existing Discaroo Dollars (generated by sales of your discs or purchased with Paypal). This is also the solution to the second problem of making the site profitable for me. The purchase of Discaroo Dollars will fund the continued development of the site as well as fund your purchase of new discs. It's a win win.

Take some time to check out the myDiscaroo area as things have moved around and been redesigned a bit. I look forward to hearing what you think and hope this change can be beneficial for us all.

More information is available in the Site FAQ. If you still have questions or concerns please feel free to Send Feedback.

Happy Hucking,
Steve

P.S. We've also made a lot of small changes with this update. These include the following:

  • Listing out the address of the person you traded with in the Transaction Detail view. This way if you lose the confirmation email you can still know where to mail a disc.
  • Removed the manufacturer's links from disc detail pages.
  • The myDiscaroo flyout navigation box will show a number next to the Home button when you have active transactions (i.e. Home (3 Active)).
  • Added the Discraft Cryztal plastic, Quarter K II and all the Black Jax discs.
  • Redesigned the Transaction History to be more useful. Also, relocated it to your myDiscaroo home page.
  • Renamed myDiscs to myDiscaroo.
  • Any transactions you deleted in your Transaction History had to be reset to show up again. This was due to a bug we created when making deleting transactions a possibility. Sorry for the hassle, hopefully the new look of the Transaction History will make deleting them less important anyhow. If you tried to leave feedback for someone and couldn't find the transaction you should look again now. There's a good change it will magically be there :).
